FSO Instruments

FSO – a 50/50 joint venture between DEMCON and VDL – develops systems for the rapidly growing market of optical communications in and to space. From 2023 to 2025, the CubeCAT was operational, a terminal that utilises this technology. CubeCAT reached a major milestone through a successful in-orbit validation aboard the NORSAT TD satellite: the world's fastest laser communication terminal in a 1U form factor (10 × 10 × 10 cm) successfully established stable connections with multiple ground stations on a regular basis. This marks an important step towards ultra-fast, secure data communications via space. Building on this achievement, FSO is now developing a complete portfolio of dual-use communication solutions.

For our laser communication terminals, including those for the PAMI-1 satellite, FSO Instruments works closely with VDL TBP Electronics on the assembly of the PCBAs. Their expertise in high-quality electronics assembly and their collaborative approach make them a reliable partner within our consortium. Together, we are developing technology that enables fast and secure data transmission.
